Open Position: Program Officer, Decarbonization Strategies and Energy Innovation

The Bezos Earth Fund is seeking a Program Officer to support the Director of Decarbonization Pathways and the Director of Energy Innovation. The Program Officer will work closely with these two directors across the breadth of their activities, including charting strategy, assessing activity in the community, engaging with the community, processing grants, evaluating progress, and working internally across other areas in the Earth Fund. The position requires an adept project manager, coordinator, communicator, and strategic thinking. We seek someone with broad interdisciplinary knowledge and exposure to multiple aspects relevant to the climate mitigation and climate finance agendas.

Key Responsibilities

The Program Officer will help the Directors of Decarbonization Pathways and Energy Innovation across their portfolios of activities, including the following:

  • Help in the development of grantmaking strategies for Decarbonization Pathways and Energy Innovation.
  • Help to engage with key communities.
  • Help to process and evaluate grants.
  • Coordinate internally across other areas of focus at the Earth Fund.
  • Conduct background research as needed to support strategy and grantmaking.
  • Work directly with the Director of Decarbonization Pathways and Director of Energy Innovation to perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree required in economics, environmental science or engineering, or public policy with knowledge of climate issues, ideally an interdisciplinary background.
  • At least five years in a relevant institution with demonstrated experience in coordination and project management.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong coordination skills.
  • Strong leadership potential.
  • Self-starter with ability to juggle multiple assignments at one time.
  • A good understanding of the climate mitigation and energy innovation.
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Great attention to details.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical competency.
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for the Bezos Earth Fund’s mission.
  • Friendly, positive demeanor and determined attitude.
  • Ability to collaborate with teams.
  • Capable of working with minimal direction and supervision.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require extended hours for urgent issues or to meet established deadlines.
  • The preferred location for this position is Washington, D.C.
  • May undertake limited domestic and/or international travel (less than 10% time).
