The Bezos Earth Fund is partnering with the Rainforest Trust to help rapidly expand protected and conserved areas in the core Brazilian Amazon by supporting local partners and projects. This grant will maximize impact on biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and in safeguarding and enhancing the rights and livelihoods of local and Indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon. The project will focus on:

  • The creation of 7 million acres of new or expanded protected or conserved areas (broadly defined) and strengthening the management of these 7 million acres
  • Securing 1.9 billion metric tons of CO2 equivalents
  • Preserving habitat for 70 IUCN listed threatened species
  • 60-80% of new protected areas that will feature Indigenous land titling or other land tenure approaches
