Safeguarding New Marine Protected Areas in French Polynesia 

This grant supports French Polynesia’s recent historic commitment to protect its national waters as a MPA, with significant zones under strict protection and further safeguards planned by 2026. Once these MPA are legally designated, the grant will help the government turn commitments into action – through robust planning, effective enforcement, and sustainable long-term financing. The design and implementation of the MPA will be carried out in close partnership with coastal communities and the local fishing industry to ensure both ecological impact and community benefit.
