Scaling Ocean Conservation in New Caledonia and Samoa
This grant is enabling Samoa to protect 30% of its national waters by operationalizing nine newly designated MPA under their national marine spatial plan. It also helps to expand and strengthen protection of the Coral Sea Natural Park in New Caledonia.
Conservation International is supporting efforts in data-driven and inclusive ocean protection, legal designations, monitoring and enforcement, and community engagement. In both countries, sustainable financing for long-term management will be established – operationalizing the Coral Sea Conservation Fund in New Caledonia and designing a long-term ocean financing framework for Samoa.
