Creation of Protected Areas While Supporting Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities

Conservation International will work to conserve at least 9.2 million hectares of rainforest in the Tropical Andes by 2024, while supporting Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLC) and collaboratively designing sustainable financing. Work will include: 

  1. Helping create 1.1 million hectares of new protected areas and strengthening management of 8.1 million hectares;
  2. Supporting IPLC through funding, training and technology; 
  3. Designing long-term financing mechanisms to support sustainable nature-based economies and establish long-term revenue flows for conserved areas; and 
  4. Facilitating collaboration and information exchange across organizations and initiatives.
