The Galápagos and Hermandad Marine reserves expand over 202,000 square kilometers of the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor, surrounding Ecuador’s Galápagos Islands. The reserves’ habitats are home to rich biodiversity, including nearly 3,000 marine species. To conserve and maintain the unique species of the area, the Bezos Earth Fund granted $1.32M to Fundación Jocotoco, WildAid and the Charles Darwin Foundation through Re:wild.

The project will strengthen the Galapagos National Park’s (PNG) capacity for effectively implementing the two Galapagos MPAs, which are central to the connectivity of the Eastern Tropical Pacific Seascape. Project partners will work to:

  1. Develop a management plan for the new Hermandad Marin Reserve;
  2. Support key equipment and infrastructure;
  3. Implement a communication and community outreach campaign; and
  4. Develop a Coral Restoration Action Plan that integrates science and management.
