Africa is the continent where both the need and opportunity for restoration are the greatest. ARCOS Network is one of our grantee partners scaling up locally-led restoration work in Rwanda. They are not only planting trees and helping restore degraded land but providing food and income that supports the livelihoods of local communities.
At COP27, we announced a $50 million commitment to further African-led restoration through the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100). This funding supports locally-led projects and small businesses supporting Africa’s ambitious effort to restore productivity to 100 million hectares of degraded and deforested land by 2030.
