Let's Change Energy for Good with the Global Energy Alliance for People & Planet
Universal clean energy is good for people AND the planet. The technology exists to dramatically expand access for the 3.6 billion people in the world who do not have reliable, affordable, sustainable energy, while also transforming our energy systems to meet our climate goals.
But progress has been limited to a small subset of countries and only partial efforts.
To accelerate the green energy revolution, we joined the Ikea Foundation and The Rockefeller Foundation to launch the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet at COP26.
This historic alliance commits $10B to focus on the energy transition in developing and emerging economies, tackling challenges in the power sector and advancing climate action while creating and enabling green jobs.
GEAPP's work will help set the policies and mobilize the resources to:
- Increase access to affordable and reliable clean power
- Cut over 4B tons of greenhouse gas emissions
- Create 150M green jobs
- Improve the lives of 1 billion people
As an anchor partner of GEAPP, the Earth Fund is committed to urgently transforming energy systems to help create a cleaner, more sustainable and equitable world.
We are granting $50M to speed up an equitable energy transition with developing countries around the world, from demand aggregation for renewable technologies in Nigeria, to metro grid deployments in the DRC, to a just transition from coal in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province.
